Self-employment Visas

Entrepreneur Work Visa

This visa is for people who want to establish or buy a business in New Zealand. Applicants must invest a minimum of $100,000 in their business unless they qualify for a waiver.

In order to qualify for an Entrepreneur Work Visa, you must claim a minimum of 120 points and produce a business plan demonstrating how they will achieve those goals (the points claimed).

Entrepreneur Work Visas are granted for a duration of 3 years and if you meet the goals in your business plan, you can apply for residence after running your business for 2 years. If you invest more than $500,000 in the business and employ 3 or more full time New Zealand citizens or residents, you can apply for residence after 6 months.

Entrepreneur Residence Visa

Entrepreneur Work Visa holders who have operated a business in New Zealand and met the goals (points claimed) in their business plan qualify for residence after running their business for either 2 years or 6 months.

Open work visa holders (those whose visa permit the holder to work in any employment) may qualify under this category after operating their business for 2 years.
