Starting May 1st, 2024, secondary school teachers have a new option to apply for residency called the Straight to Residence pathway.

If you’re an eligible teacher from another country, you can apply for residency from outside New Zealand:

• when you have an offer of employment with an accredited employer, and
• registration with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand, and
• a provisional practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Other teaching roles remain on the Work to Residence pathway.
